As the engine rotates, the trigger tab on the rotor passes by the trigger coil, generating a small voltage signal. When the trigger tab on the flywheel passes the trigger coil, it induces a small voltage pulse signal.

Testing Method: Use a multimeter on resistance mode to measure across the trigger coil terminals. Normal resistance is typically between 50-500 ohms (consult your service manual for exact specs). If resistance is infinite or significantly out of range, the coil is faulty.
